56-01-01-01. Organization of board of optometry. 1. History and function. The 1903 legislative assembly passed legislation regulating the practice of optometry, codified as North Dakota Century Code chapter 43-13. This chapter establishes a seven-member board of optometry appointed by the governor. The board regulates the profession of optometry in the state. 2. Board membership. The board consists of seven members appointed by the governor. Five members are resident registered optometrists and have established optometric practices in the state. Members of the board serve five-year terms. 3. Officers. The board annually shall elect from its number a president and a secretary. The president shall preside at all meetings of the board. The secretary shall preside in the absence of the president. 4. Inquiries.
